Structural modification and stress analysis of fixtures used in a dryer in an livestock feed factory

Project Details

One of the economic sectors associated with the sugar cane industry is the production of animal feed for livestock farming. Normally, in a sugarcane-based industry, there is a feed factory for livestock. In the animal feed factory there is a department where the bagasse from the sugar mill is dried in a controlled process.

In one of the livestock feed factories, parts inside the dryer were constantly breaking due to the problems caused by the vibrations and heavy load of the dryer line. In this project, an optimal design for these parts was presented by carrying out several analyzes.

Fixtures used inside the drum of a dryer line that were failing are shown in this section.

Some Cool Title

It has been suggested to use a semi-circular profile instead of using fixtures with square profiles. You can easily make this profile by cutting a pipe in half and welding it a little.

Here are the results of the stress analysis for a semi-circular profile section.

As can be seen from the results of the analysis, the profile fastening will fail despite the low deformation due to the plastic behavior. On the other hand, with the half-pipe attachment, despite the greater deformation, the part has an elastic and resilient behavior that absorbs the shocks and impulses of the internal components of the dryer very well.

It was suggested to make a precise template that you can use once for laser cutting to install new fixtures. You can use this template to determine the exact position of the fixtures inside the dryer. It should be noted that the exact installation of the fixtures in their places has a significant impact on the quality of the work and the absence of errors.
